Are you experiencing fiber cable troubles in your passive CWDM or DWDM network?
Typically in these cases you would need to schedule a maintenance window and take down all the DWDM or CWDM channels to perform an OTDR fiber trace. However this is not necessary with some specific “OTDR Friendly” Passive CWDM systems and DWDM systems. They allow OTDR traces to be performed through the CWDM or DWDM with all circuits live using a spare CWDM channel or the proper DWDM OTDR port. Refer to your DWDM/CWDM manufacturer’s specifications to see if your DWDM and CWDM systems are “OTDR Friendly”. CWDM/DWDM channel OTDR are available from some OTDR vendors including EXFO.com.
